3 Things to Start Your Week

  • Grab your breakfast and get up to speed with these three items to start your week.

    1. Sign Up for a Day of Service
Day of Service volunteers in Houston Hall photo by Eric SucarPenn’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is only a week away, but there are still openings for volunteers. January 19 activities start with a Kick-off Breakfast in Houston Hall, followed by this year’s Community Beautification projects at different neighborhood locations. On-campus events include Helping Hands, the Penn Reads Literacy & Children’s Art Project, and a Candlelight Vigil. For registration information, visit aarc.upenn.edu/events.
    2. A Healthy New Year Deal
Penn Campus Recreation is now offering University employees, their spouses, and sponsored guests access to two on-campus recreation centers for only $1 now through January 31. Registration ends January 20. Facilities include a rock-climbing wall, basketball courts, Olympic-sized swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness spaces, and much more! For details, check out the Campus Rec newsletter or call 215-898-6100.
    3. New Takes on Artifacts
The new Re/Make History: Crafting the Past with 21st-Century Technologies exhibit at the Penn Museum Library showcases the potential of using new design tools to appreciate and understand cultural heritage. Inspired by rare books and archaeological artifacts, Penn staff and students created replicas and new works of art at three campus makerspaces: Education Commons, the Bollinger Digital Fabrication Lab, and Venture Lab.  Their works are on display January 14-19.
