Regular Part-Time Staff Members

116.1 DEFINITION

A regular part-time staff member is defined as a person who works between 910 and 1,456 hours a year (17.5 - 28 hours per week). The employee fills an ongoing, budgeted position approved by Human Resources/Compensation.

116.2 SALARY DETERMINATION

Salary for a part-time position is based on the corresponding full-time position. The part-time position is assigned the grade level of the full-time position, and the staff member is paid the hourly rate of the comparable full-time position.

116.3 BENEFITS 

  1. Health
    Regular part-time employees are eligible for University group rates under the ACA medical plan. It is important to note that the cost of the single coverage ACA plan is partially subsidized by the University.

    Not eligible
  3. Vision
    Regular part-time employees are eligible for University group rates. The entire premium is paid by the staff member.
  4. Life Insurance
    Regular part-time employees are eligible for University group rates. The entire premium is paid by the staff member. Regular part-time employees are eligible for coverage equal to twice their annual salary.
  5. Pre-Tax Expense Accounts
    Regular part-time employees are eligible to contribute up to $1,000 per year to the Health Care Pre-Tax Expense Account after two (2) years of continuous service. Regular part-time employees are eligible to contribute up to $5,000 per year to the Dependent Care Pre-Tax Expense Account if they are at least 21 years of age.
  6. Long-Term Care Insurance
    Regular part-time employees are eligible for University group rates. The entire premium is paid by the staff member.
  7. Sick Leave
    Part-time employees are eligible on a pro-rata basis.
  8. Short-Term Disability
    Not eligible
  9. Long-Term Disability
    Not eligible
  10. Retirement
    Regular part-time staff members who work 1,000 or more hours per year are eligible for retirement credit under the Retirement Allowance Plan (RAP) for that year. Exempt regular part-time staff members who opted to participate in the University’s matching plan prior to September 1, 1989, remain eligible for that plan. Full-time staff members who change to a part-time status will be covered under the RAP as of the date of their status change. All regular part-time staff members are also eligible to contribute to the Supplemental Retirement Annuity (SRA) plan.
  11. Faculty/Staff Scholarship Program
    Not eligible
  12. Vacation
    Regular part-time staff members are eligible on a pro-rata basis.
  13. Holidays
    Regular part-time staff members are eligible for time off with pro-rata pay for all holidays, including the special vacation days between Christmas and New Year's Day, which fall on one of the staff member's regularly scheduled workdays.
  14. Leave with Pay Eligible on a pro-rata basis.
  15. Leave without Pay University policy is the same as for regular full-time staff members.

116.4 USE OF FACILITIES

Part-time staff members are eligible for the use of University facilities (e.g., libraries, recreational programs, Faculty Club, etc.) in accordance with University policies for administrative/professional and support staff members.
