Penn offers a variety of retirement plans to help you save for a secure future—and the earlier you start contributing, the more financially prepared you’ll be.
Saving early lets you take advantage of compound interest so you can maximize your retirement savings and make every dollar go a little further. Through Penn’s Tax-Deferred Retirement (TDR) Plan, the University makes a basic contribution to your account once you’re eligible, whether or not you also contribute to the plan. What’s more? If you contribute to the plan, the University matches your contributions dollar-for-dollar for up to 5% of your salary, which means you can boost your savings even more.

Health and fitness has always been important to Kris Forrest. That’s why she makes it a point to stay active during the work day—and she says there’s no better place to do that than Penn.
“There are so many resources here to help you stay in shape. No matter what your fitness needs, Penn has something for everyone,” she said.
While Kris has only worked at Penn for one year, the Associate Director of Finance for Business Services has already made the most of the University’s healthy living workshops. She learned about nutritious eating habits and how to eat healthy at Penn as well as how to create an ergonomic workspace. Kris even squeezed in a 5K walk and a chair yoga workout during her lunch break, which inspired her to make yoga a regular part of her routine.
“Where else can you find so many opportunities to maintain a healthy lifestyle at work? Plus, they’re free and really accessible since they’re held on campus. You can’t beat that,” Kris said.
In addition to wellness workshops, Penn also offers a number of other programs to keep your physical and mental health in check, including a discounted gym membership, the Penn Walking Program, Weight Watchers at Penn, healthy vending machine choices, quit smoking resources, and more.
