Penn Medicine Is a Leader in Bilateral Hand Transplants

In fall 2024, Luka Krizanac, a 28-year-old Swiss man, became Penn Medicine’s fifth hand transplant recipient. The surgery was performed 16 years after Luka's hands were amputated due to an infection and now has allowed him to perform tasks that were impossible before the transplant such as typing on his iPhone and holding a cup.
