Fall and Winter Holidays Reminder
The chill of fall has arrived and the semester is nearly half over. With November approaching, you may be making travel and other arrangements for later this fall and winter. No matter your plans, it’s helpful to remember Penn’s upcoming holiday observances:
Thanksgiving, Thursday and Friday, November 24 & 25, 2016
Christmas Day, Monday, December 26, 2016
New Year’s Day, Monday, January 2, 2017
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 16, 2017
Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2017
Each year, the President, Provost and EVP assess the feasibility of observing Penn’s traditional Special Winter Vacation. Thus, the Special Winter Vacation granted to faculty and staff will be December 27, 28, 29 and 30, 2016.
For a complete list of this fiscal year’s holidays and details on policies regarding work over Special Winter Vacation, visit the Almanac.
Learn the Secret to Achieving High Performance
Teams are a vital part of nearly every organization. Though they may differ in focus or purpose, all teams share a common goal to perform at the highest level. At The Secret to Achieving High Performance on October 27, 9am-12pm, you’ll learn the secret to the most effective and cohesive teams — members who CARE.
Care is important for teamwork in the literal sense, as well as in the sense of the acronym CARE:
- Communication
- Ability
- Results
- Esprit de corps
These four traits are the foundation of team excellence, and this course will break down the practical strategies for developing each one. The course will cover how to improve your ability to assess individual strengths to ensure team performance, foster accountability among team members, and much more.
Helpful for anyone who works as part of a team, this course will also address some of the biggest challenges teams face. Through the course’s interactive learning setting, you’ll have the chance to apply the concepts risk-free. Practice how to ensure team members talk and listen equally or how to avoid common goal setting mistakes so that your next team project will achieve the best results.
Register now for The Secret to Achieving High Performance on October 27. Your department will be charged a $75 fee for this program.
More Be in the Know Prize Winners
Participating in the Be in the Know wellness campaign is rewarding. Just ask Meredith Krain, Feiyan Liu, and Denise Scala, the final prize-drawing winners from last year’s Be in the Know campaign.
Meredith, legal coordinator in the Perelman School of Medicine, and Feiyan, research specialist in PSOM, each won a FitBit Flex. Denise, senior grants manager in the School of Nursing, won a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble. They each qualified for the drawings by returning as participants and earning at least 100 Bonus Action points during the 2015-2016 campaign, which ended in August.
You can reap the benefits of better health and qualify for similar prize drawings by participating in the 2016-2017 Be in the Know campaign. Get started today: Register for an on-campus biometric screening. Returning Be in the Know participants will automatically be entered in the prize drawing.
