Family Day 2016 Tickets Available Now

Penn Family DaySaturday, October 8 is Penn Family Day 2016. Now in its 24th year, Family Day welcomes faculty, staff, and postdoctoral scholars for a celebration of Penn people. Gather your family and friends for a day of food, games, sports, science, and cultural activities, all in and around historic Franklin Field!

This year features two styles of football: American football in Franklin Field and Women’s and Men’s soccer in Rhodes Field. Plus, we’ve added a new photo both where you can create and capture fun-filled Family Day memories.

Order your tickets online now. Or pick them up at the Penn Athletic Ticket Office in Weightman Hall, located at 235 S. 33rd Street. Faculty, staff, and postdocs can order up to 4 free tickets per person for the Tailgate Party and football game, so you can treat your family and friends—and yourself. Tickets are required for the Tailgate Party lunch and football game. Additional tickets can be purchased for $8. Tickets are only available until October 7, so don’t miss out.

10am-5pm: Explore the Penn Museum with crafts for kids, gallery talks for grown-ups, and fascinating exhibits for everyone, including In the Artifact Lab, Native American Voices, and The Golden Age of King Midas. Special programming begins at 12:30pm.

11:30am-1pm: Enjoy lunch, face-painting, and carnival games at the Tailgate Party.

1pm: Root for the Quakers as they take on Central Connecticut State on the football field.

3pm: Chill out at Penn Ice Rink. Skate sessions are just $3.50 with your PennCard, and skate rentals are just $3.

5pm: Watch Penn Women’s soccer tame the Columbia University Lions at Rhodes Field.

7:30pm: See more soccer action when Penn Men’s soccer play Columbia at Rhodes Field.

Free Family Day parking will be available with your PennCard at the Walnut 38 and Chestnut 34 Garages.

The Science of Process Improvement

measuring improvement

When you invest precious time and effort into a process, how can you be sure that it actually produces valuable results for your team and the people you serve? Lean process improvement applies scientific principles to understanding your processes and procedures, giving you a framework for examining your work and separating proven, beneficial actions from things you do just because “we’ve always done them that way.”

Register for the American Management Association’s Lean Process Improvement Planning workshop, and get the tools you need to put your processes to the test. This two-day American Management Association (AMA) workshop runs October 6-7, 9am-5pm, in the Learning & Education training room at 3624 Market Street.

Lean provides methods to analyze and improve processes in virtually any area, including higher education, research centers, and hospitals. Whether in an office, lab, or clinical setting, lean can help you create a more efficient workflow, reduce mistakes, and improve critical services and processes. The approach weaves continuous improvement into your processes, transforming how you and your team think and work.

Led by AMA’s expert trainer, this workshop will give you a foundation in lean principles and tools. You’ll learn the DMAIC process (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) and lean metrics, as well as how to determine which activities add value and how to eliminate those that do not. What you learn will help you see your own processes in a new light and identify simple fixes that can deliver quick solutions and improvements. A highly interactive case study will also let you put your new skills to use as you work to repair a broken process.

Register now for this AMA workshop at Penn. This same program offered directly by AMA costs up to $2,095. At Penn, your department will be charged only $75 when you register.

This three-part program covers the essentials of your retirement package, including your retirement income options, Social Security, and Medicare. Thinking About Retirement will help you reap the rewards of your Penn career long after you retire.

At Social Security, representatives from the Social Security Administration will share valuable details about this program. At Penn Benefits & Medicare, representatives from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, along with Benefits Specialists from Human Resources, will explain your retirement healthcare options.
