2016 Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

On Thursday, April 28, Penn proudly celebrates national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. This interactive program allows staff and faculty to share a career development experience with kids between 9 and 15 years old.

Young guests will have the opportunity to see where their parents and sponsors work and what they do, gain exposure to higher education, and enjoy hands-on exploration of different career fields. Many business units and campus organizations are collaborating to host the day’s events.

You don’t have to be a parent or guardian to join the fun. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and others can sponsor a young guest, providing a child or teen with a positive Penn experience.

Participants can:

  • Cheer on the athletes at the Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States
  • Get a closer look at a career in Dentistry, Law, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, Finance, Law Enforcement, and other fields through hands-on demonstrations
  • Take a one-mile walk to the BioPond, talk to the gardener, and tour this spectacular botanical garden
  • Learn about wellness with “The Science of Sleep and How to Apply It,” “Creating Healthy Snacks,” the “Quaker Obstacle Race” and other healthy activities.

Registration begins Thursday, April 14 at 9am. A list of events and registration information is online.

This year’s Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day schedule includes both limited registration and unlimited registration events. You may attend one limited registration activity and as many unlimited registration activities as you like. Space is limited for certain events, so be sure to register early

Supervisor approval is required prior to participation. Participating parents and sponsors must accompany children to all activities. Participants must work with their supervisors to ensure coverage for operational needs.

A New Spin on Administrative Professionals Day

-man-spinning-plates-200px-web

If you’re an administrative assistant or coordinator, you support faculty, staff, and students in countless ways every day. To support you, in turn, Penn offers professional development programs throughout the year and a special event in April created just for you. Penn celebrates Administrative Professionals Day 2016 with a program to help busy administrative assistants and coordinators manage decisions and get positive results.

On Wednesday, April 27 from 12:30pm to 2pm, join fellow admins for Too Much on My Plate: Balancing Life Demands, a custom-made lunchtime workshop that will help you make the most of your time and energy.

Does it seem that there is more and more to do, yet less and less time in which to do it? Are you overwhelmed by all that is expected of you?  Is there too much on your plate? As a professional in today's fast-paced, technology-packed world, our lives are full. More and more is required of us. How do we balance it all? Gather with your coworkers for a creative and simulating experience of balancing life's demands, followed by group discussion.

If your head is spinning, take a break. Register for Too Much on My Plate: Balancing Life Demands today. Lunch is included, but space is limited. Your department will be charged a $25 fee for this program.
