Find a Flu Shot on Campus

Fall is quickly approaching, which means flu season isn’t far behind. Reduce your risk of falling victim to the virus by taking advantage of discounted flu shots on campus.

During the month of October, you can get a flu shot at several convenient locations on campus for just $25 (cash only). Human Resources is partnering with Occupational Medicine and Student Health Service to offer flu shots to full- and part-time Penn faculty and staff.

Human Resources will be administering flu shots on October 1, 8 and 11 at the School of Nursing, School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the Wharton School. Pre-registration is required for these clinics. Time slots can fill up quickly, so it’s best to register online as soon as possible.

This year, you can also get your flu shot through Student Health Service. They’re offering walk-in clinics (no pre-registration needed) from 11am-7:30pm on October 16 and 23 in Houston Hall, Bodek Lounge.

No matter which option you choose, you’ll need to bring your PennCard as well as $25 cash. For complete details on this year’s flu shot program, click here.

AMP-UP Develops Penn Leaders

Congratulations to the most recent graduates of Penn’s AMP-UP program! The Advanced Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania (AMP-UP) connects motivated staff members from around the University, helping them work and learn together to develop their leadership skills.

AMP-UP provides a solid foundation on a variety of key topics, including leadership style, influence, conflict, engagement, team development, and change management. Participants learn essential leadership skills through the use of creative activities, guest speakers, and group interactions.

Our second AMP-UP cohort (pictured here) completed their program this July. When asked what they valued most about the experience, here’s what some of them had to say:

  • “The group interaction was the most valuable, especially role playing for conflicting situations. I enjoyed the fact that I was able to learn from my fellow participants.”
  • “The group project was an excellent tool. Really enjoyed all the interaction and group activities. Guest speakers were excellent and engaging!”
  • “The monthly sessions were incredibly helpful and the information was presented in very creative, engaging ways. I find myself already applying so much of what I learned, and sharing the activities and information with others.”

The AMP-UP program is offered once a year, and participants are selected through a nomination process that includes school/center leadership and Human Resources.  If you’re interested in pursuing a nomination from your school or center, contact your HR representative. To be eligible for AMP-UP, you must have completed the Essentials of Management program at least two years ago or have at least five years of leadership experience at Penn.

Manage Your Time More Effectively

Ever feel like you simply don’t have enough time in the day to get everything done? You’re not alone. Most of us were never taught time management skills, yet we need them in almost all facets of our lives.

The good news is that you can make simple changes to help you get things done more efficiently and effectively. So join us on Wednesday, October 24 for a three-hour workshop on Mastering Time and Task Management.

You’ll learn tools and techniques you can put to use immediately to help you better manage your workload. Find out why planning out your day and prioritizing tasks can increase your productivity exponentially. Discover why it’s okay to say “no” to nonessential tasks. And learn how to delegate, limit distractions, and manage multiple priorities and tasks.

Your department will be charged a modest fee of $75. You can choose between a morning (9am-12pm) or afternoon (1:30-4:30pm) session. Click here for complete details and to register.

Get Fit While You Sit

Yoga is a great way to improve your flexibility, strength, and balance. But you don’t have to twist yourself into knots to reap the benefits. Try chair yoga!

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that’s done while sitting in a chair or using a chair for support. Simple stretches and poses combined with a focus on breathing will give you a great workout—and you won’t have to master complex positions. Chair yoga can be modified for all levels, so don’t worry about your experience or flexibility.

If you’re ready to relax your mind and improve your wellbeing, join us at 12pm on Wednesday, September 11 for the first workshop in our free Chair Yoga series this fall. Additional yoga workshops will be held on the first Wednesday of each month through December.

All sessions will be led by Lieutenant John Wylie from Penn’s Department of Public Safety. Lieutenant Wylie is a certified yoga instructor who has been teaching for the last six years. Learn more and register here.
