Retirement Readiness: Your Guide to Social Security and Medicare
We all want to be financially prepared for retirement. But in order to do that, you need to know what role Social Security and Medicare play in your retirement planning—and now’s your chance to find out!
Join us on Tuesday, June 25 for a presentation on Social Security and Medicare, and how they impact your retirement plans. Representatives from each program will give you an overview of Social Security and Medicare benefits, eligibility rules, how to apply, what’s covered, benefits for your spouse/same-sex domestic partner, and more. Find out how to maximize the benefits of Social Security and Medicare so you and your loved ones can live comfortably during retirement.
You’ll also have the opportunity to meet with Penn’s medical and retirement plan vendors (Independence Blue Cross, Aetna, TIAA-CREF and Vanguard) and learn more about your benefit options as you approach retirement.
We’re holding two sessions (from 10am–12pm and 12:30pm–2:30pm). For complete details and to register, click here.
Get More Time (and More Results) from Your Work Day
We all want to be as productive as possible during the work day. But when you have a growing list of responsibilities, how do you get everything done without putting in more time, effort and energy? We’ll tell you!
Join us on June 20 to learn the secrets of Mastering Time and Task Management. You’ll learn techniques to make you more effective and productive at work. Discover strategies to help you plan your day, prioritize tasks, and say “no” to non-essential requests. We’ll also show you how to delegate, limit distractions and manage multiple projects like a pro. By the end of this workshop, you’ll know how to work smarter (not harder) in order to tackle your work and get the results you want.
Your department will be charged a nominal fee for this workshop ($75). Click here for complete details and to register.
Use or Lose Your FSA Balance
Do you have an unused balance in your Health Care or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)? If so, make sure you use it—or you’ll lose it. IRS regulations require you to use the full balance in your FSA account each plan year. Otherwise you lose that unused money.
Penn’s plan year runs from July 1–June 30 of each year. The money you contribute to your FSA during each plan year can only be used for expenses incurred within certain dates (see below). Keep in mind the expenses must be incurred while you’re actively participating in the accounts.
| Account Type | Plan Year | Time Frame to Incur Expenses | Claim Submission Deadline |
| FY13 Health Care | July 1, 2012 – | July 1, 2012 – | Sept. 30, 2013 |
| FY13 Dependent Care | July 1, 2012 – | ||
| FY14 Health Care | July 1, 2013 – | July 1, 2013 – | Sept. 30, 2014 |
| FY14 Dependent Care | July 1, 2013 – |
