Christine Steerman, MA, RD, LDN, is a licensed and credentialed registered dietitian with a bachelor’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master’s in Nutrition Education from Immaculata University. Retirement Planning: An Emotional Perspective 02/25/2020 12:30-1:30pm This workshop reviews the six phases of retirement from a social perspective: everything from pre-retirement planning, to the honeymoon phase, and ultimately to reorientation and development of a new lifestyle. For many people, a major concern is how they will handle the emotional stages of retirement. How will they create a new identity? This workshop reviews all of these stages, from the imagination stage (which can begin 5-15 years prior to retirement) to the reconciliation stage (which can last up to 15 years or more after retirement). Lactation Resource Group: Integrating Lactation and Work 03/17/2020 12-1pm This interactive conversation, led by Dr. Diane Spatz, Professor of Perinatal Nursing and Helen M. Shearer Term Professor of Nutrition; Nurse Researcher, Director, Lactation Program; and Director, Mothers’ Milk Bank, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, will provide an opportunity for expecting, new, and experienced parents on campus, to get help with lactation challenges, ensure a smooth transition back to work and academics and share helpful tips with one another. Positive Momentum: 4-Week Mindfulness Course 04/06/2020 12-1:45 pm This 4-session mindfulness course offers participants an opportunity to practice calming and effective awareness activities adapted by Jennifer Schelter, Best of Philly, Radiant Retreat - your fullest gifts, self-care and creativity retreat. Sessions will begin with a brief guided meditation to feel present. Following this meditation, participants will experience a short journaling exercise to clarify your most cherished gifts or current goals (health, career, community, relationship, etc.). The group will also discuss how to apply mindful awareness to everyday life for greater ease, natural evolution, and self-development. The session will conclude with a simple body scan, visualization of successes and communal gratitude circle. No experience necessary. PREP: Prevention Resources and Education for Parents and Caregivers 04/08/2020 12-1pm Parents and caregivers are the most powerful influence in deterring their children from alcohol, nicotine, and other drug use. When parents and caregivers have skills, knowledge, and resources regarding substance use and prevention, their influence on their children’s actions and decisions increases. Cigarette Butt Clean-Up Walk 04/14/2020 12:00pm - 1:00pm In honor of Earth Day, join the Healthy Penn Partnership and beautify Penn's campus with a cigarette butt clean-up walk! We will split up into small groups to cover an assigned section of campus. Each group will ideally have one person with an iPhone to download the Rubbish app, which will be used to log the locations of cigarette butts on campus. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Collected cigarette butts will be recycled by TerraCycle. Your work will help clean Penn's campus and identify areas not in compliance with Penn's Tobacco-Free Campus policy. Registration Open

Mindfulness in the Workplace: 8-week cohort 05/05/2020 2-4 pm This eight-week program offers an introduction to mindfulness-based stress management. This structured and foundational process supports participants to learn mindfulness-based tools and apply mindfulness in real-life situations to help reduce stress, increase focus and mental clarity, improve communication in relationships, improve mood and energy, and better manage difficult situations. The course consists of eight 2-hour weekly classes and a full-day retreat on the weekend before week seven of the course. All class materials are provided, including weekly practice assignments and guided audio meditation practices.
