Tax-Deferred Retirement Plan (TDR): How to Enroll

Beginning July 1, Penn faculty and staff will have another savings vehicle to consider for your retirement portfolio. The Roth 403 (b) will be added as on option under Penn's Tax Deferred Retirement (TDR) Plan and the Supplemental Retirement Annuity (SRA) Plan. Click here for more information.

There are two easy ways to manage your retirement benefits at Penn: online or on the phone. Using either method, you may enroll for the first time or make changes to your elections at any time during the year. Here’s how:

1. Go online to www.hr.upenn.edu/retirement.
The convenient online enrollment system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

OR

2. Call the Retirement Call Center at 1 877 PENN-RET (1 877 736-6738).
The Retirement Call Center is open Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

You may be eligible to have prior service credit applied so that you can:

Waive or Reduce the One-Year Wait Before Penn Contributions Begin
If you have eligible prior service at Penn or another employer, you may be able to waive or reduce the one-year wait before Penn contributions begin. You must complete one of the following two steps to get credit for your service:

  1. If you are eligible for prior service credit from another employer, you must complete a Prior Service Credit: Employee Certification (Adobe Acrobat PDF) form and obtain a letter from your prior employer (Adobe Acrobat PDF) in order to have the one-year waiting period waived. Return both the form and the letter to the Benefits Office at 3401 Walnut Street, Suite 527A.
  2. If you are eligible for prior service credit from the University or from the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), contact the Benefits Office at 215-898-4436 or .

Waive or Reduce the Three-Year Wait Before You Become Vested in Penn Contributions
If you have prior service at Penn or the Penn Health System, you may be able to waive or reduce the three-year wait before you become vested in Penn contributions. You must complete the Employment History Verification Form and return it to the Benefits Office at 3401 Walnut Street, Suite 527A to get credit for your service.
