Dependent Life Insurance
You can purchase dependent life insurance coverage for your spouse/domestic partner and/or your eligible children. The amounts of available coverage are $15,000 for your spouse/domestic partner and $7,500 per child.
You are eligible for Dependent Life Insurance if you are a full-time member of
the University faculty or staff in a benefits eligible position, or a member of
a collective bargaining unit. Your eligible dependents include:
- Your spouse or domestic partner.*
- Your unmarried biological, adopted children and stepchildren up to age
26. (Your spouse's or
domestic partner's biological and/or adopted children are eligible if
they meet the age and dependent criteria.)
- Your disabled children up to age 26 (coverage may be extended if you submit the following to Aetna within 31 days of your child reaching age 26):
Please note that if both you and your spouse or same-sex domestic partner are eligible to purchase Dependent Life Insurance through the University, each of you may purchase a policy covering the other. However, only one of you may elect to purchase a Dependent Life policy covering your children.
Upon appointment. Dependent Life Insurance coverage begins on your date of
hire.
