Models of Excellence: The Award

Now is the time to recognize fellow staff members and supervisors for their contributions to Penn's success. Nominations for the 2012 Models of Excellence Program are due by Friday, November 4. Click here for details on the nomination process.

The Models of Excellence program was introduced in 1999 to recognize notable staff member accomplishments at Penn that reflect initiative, leadership, increased efficiency and a deep commitment to service.

Standards of Excellence
Standards of Excellence, reflective of the University's values, were designed to serve as criteria upon which to base Models of Excellence nominations and evaluate staff member achievements for recognition. Read the Standards of Excellence.

Nomination Process
Nominations for Models of Excellence awards are due in the fall of each year. We seek nominations of significant achievements—above and beyond job and performance expectations—to model excellence for the campus. Please consider nominating a deserving staff member or staff team. We welcome nominations from any level of the organization, including self-nominations. Please note that all components of a nomination must be completed before it will be accepted.

Selection and Notification Process
An annually rotating Models of Excellence Selection Committee reviews all nominations and selects the award winners. The committee is representative of the diversity of our institution, comprised of Penn leaders (including the Provost, Executive Vice President, and Vice President of Human Resources), previous Models of Excellence award winners, and other faculty and staff members from across campus. Staff members chosen for Models of Excellence recognition or accorded an Honorable Mention will be notified in January. This information will be publicized broadly to the campus community. Honorees will be acknowledged at the spring Models of Excellence Award Ceremony.

Awards
Models of Excellence are identified for their outstanding contributions to the University's teaching, research and service missions. They receive a symbol of appreciation and a $500.00 monetary gift. Extremely noteworthy staff member contributions are identified for Honorable Mentions and are awarded a similar symbol of appreciation and a $250.00 monetary gift.
